Activism bio (charitable work)
Robert Redford is an actor, director and producer who is known for putting his money and his efforts into environmental and humanitarian causes, not to mention his now famous Sundance Film Institute, devoted to the creation and promotion of independent films and film-makers. As an environmental activist, Robert Redford is a founding member of the Natural Resources Defense Council and has lobbied many times to protect national land. He is widely attributed for the success in landing National Monument status for a plateau in southern Utah, now called the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. He has also donated generously to a myriad of environmental organizations and has participated in numerous projects dedicated to telling and preserving the Native American people's stories and habitats.
