Robert, a former gay activist dying of AIDS, spends his final days abandoned and alone, save for the company of David, a well-meaning hospital volunteer and a gay New Yorker. Although they clash at first, both men leave a deep and lasting impression upon one another. Besides being a raw and poignant depiction of the AIDS pandemic in America, this film also addresses many misconceptions about the virus, and the institutional problems that permitted its rampant spread and suffering.
