Hard Labor
99 min.
This film displays an interesting mix of genres - socioeconomic drama and supernatural horror - as it follows a struggling, middle-class Brazilian household. The husband, Otavio, has been laid off and is forced to navigate the nightmarish job market during the middle of a recession. Meanwhile, the wife, Helena, begins to crack under the pressure of supporting her family with her newly-opened grocery store, plus her witnessing of unexplained activity there. Tensions mount, and Helena's sense of dread about the store becomes increasingly ambiguous in its source...
