Thin Blue Line (the)
This exhilarating, engrossing documentary brought acclaimed documentary-maker Errol Morris to a wide audience, but not without controversy. Morris re-examines the case of Randall Adams, a drifter on death row for the 1976 murder of a Dallas policeman, allegedly committed with fellow outcast David Harris. Morris interviews all the principals, including federal officers under pressure to deliver a perpetrator, as well as some of their extremely unreliable witnesses, thus revealing what may have been a major miscarriage of justice. The result is an intelligent re-examination, from several perspectives, of what might actually have happened, and casts serious doubts on Adams's guilt and Harris's supposed innocence. "The Thin Blue Line" is a highly watchable documentary, and will anger, provoke, and probe its viewers while it indicts American justice.
